About Us
Barraquito is more than just a coffee shop.
Barraquito is an artisan coffee and cocktail bar, built with intention, passion, and a bit of Spanish soul right in the heart of Southampton.

Founded by local businesswomen Katie Hounsham and Poppy Moores, the space was designed to bridge the gap between a refined daytime coffee house and a relaxed evening lounge. As a female-led business, Barraquito prioritises quality, local collaboration, and a high standard of service, offering a unique destination for the city’s community to gather from day to night.

Our Story
Having been friends since secondary school, Katie and Poppy spent years toying with the idea of one day building something together.

During a weekend trip to Brighton together in May 2025, they found themselves feeling inspired and discussing how great it would be for the centre of Southampton to have a hub that offers exceptional coffee, matcha, and cocktails.
The momentum moved quickly, and the next week Poppy found the site at 78 Bedford Place. On the 25th July, 2025, following an intense period extremely hard work and determination—Barraquito was launched.

The business benefits from two distinct but complementary professional backgrounds. Katie brings over 15 years of hospitality experience, including the last five years spent growing her company, Clink & Drink Mobile Bars. Poppy founded Lets Get Dressed, a specialist interior design and home staging studio. This partnership allows Barraquito to lean on both operational expertise and an eye for intentional, sophisticated design.

The name itself is a nod to a family favourite of Katie’s: a layered coffee cocktail from Tenerife.
If you've ever visited, you will know that the beating heart of Barraquito is a team of people who truly love where they work, dedicated to providing a warm, welcoming environment for every customer.

Ultimately, Barraquito is about people. It is a space designed for everyone to enjoy fresh, locally sourced food and drink in a setting that celebrates the very best of Southampton.
